Well, today was kind of a fun day, besides Mariska being sick! I've been trying to get her at least some what interested in using the potty. Although I haven't actually put her on it yet. I've just been talking to her about how she can learn how and things like that. Well today I was putting some clothes in the washer and I hear her say "potty" and she went into the bathroom and leaned up against it, trying to get up onto it. So I got really excited and went in and asked her if she wanted to try, obviously nothing happened though. Since she showed her own interest I thought we would go and get her a potty tonight. We'll be trying it out tomorrow!!
We also picked up some "Drumstick" ice cream cones, the generic kind... and she LOVED it! I'm also tired of her getting cabin fever, being couped up all the time so we decided to get her her "house warming" gift a few months early...

This video was taken the next morning, keep in mind she's sick!!

How exciting that she's starting to show interest in the potty! Just don't switch her back and forth between underwear and diapers if you can help it - it'll just be confusing to her. Haven't done it with my own kid (obviously), but I've potty trained plenty of kids at work. Here are some things we did:
* Read books about it ("Uh Oh, Gotta Go!" etc.)
* Standing diaper changes (she stands up and bends over - WAY easier on your back, too!)
*Offer to use or flush the potty/toilet before putting on a fresh diaper.
* Do NOT use rewards like candy, or she'll be expecting something every time she pees (we had some kids who actually refused to use the toilet at home unless they got a treat for it).
* We wouldn't really start the potty training push until we saw signs of readiness for a few weeks: interest in potty, dry diapers between changes, uncomfortable in own filth.
I'm sure you're already doing most or all of these, but just thought I'd include a few things that made it successful for other kids. Good luck!
Any advice helps... I just tried putting her on it and she screamed her head off! Now what?
Don't do anything about it until she shows her own interest again!
I couldn't find Scotty anywhere until I found him on the potyy - pooping - can you believe that?!?
YAY for Scott!! How nice!
Amber's advice sounds good to me. It's not like you can make her pee on the toilet. Although, some dogs pee when they're scared...so you could always stick her on the toilet, turn off the lights, and shut the door...
I like Amy's idea. The good 'ol scare tactic works wonders sometimes... Have you also considered letting her run around buck naked for a day in the backyard? Sounds like a joke, but some people actually swear by it. I'm not sure if I'd be brave enough to try that though.
Amber's right - whatever you do, don't try to force it.
Yeah, I'm backing off... I've also ordered "Elmo's Potty Time", the reviews said it was a good video... I would let her run around naked in the yard if we had one. The way things are looking we won't have a usable one until about August or Sept. If she's still not going by then, I will!
Savannah Loves Stickers, so everytime she potty's she gets to put a sticker on her potty. Shell carry her potty around to show off the stickers she's earned. So proud. But we definately dont push her. Some days shell just ask to go potty, but most days she wont.
I cant believe she talks so well. Savannah is just three months younger than her, but I cant get her to say a word. its getting pretty frustrateing. Ill ask her if she can say baby, but she'll just sign. So im like, No , say Baby. And SHe'll sign Baby. ANd I end up yelling at her to stop signing it. So she starts crying and signing baby. Its so sad. She just looks at me like. Im saying baby, why are you mad at me. and then I start crying, because she s trying so hard. Were a mess. I think next baby Ill wait a little longer perhaps to start the Sign language.
What a cute bike!! Sorry I haven't been on for a while to comment!
