Dogs are pretty much awesome. We had these special visitors at Story Time a few weeks ago. The girls loved it.

Trees and winds
This last weekend we bought two new trees, a young oak and an ash. Our yard gets horribly hot and sunny in the summer and we can barely go out there. We're excited for some shade in the coming years. We're a bit worried about our little oak tree after the storms we had last night. I just read that our winds reached 90 mph! It was pretty scary. Our power was out for about 5 hours, luckily we slept through most of that... but the wind was so powerful and loud that I knew we wouldn't be hearing the tornado sirens if they were going off, so we grabbed the girls and hung out in our closet for about 15 minutes, until it calmed down. Our trees are still standing, but I can't say the same for our fence....
Our ash tree is below and the picture above is our poor little oak!

I don't know if you can enlarge this picture or not, but I had to post it anyway. A few weeks ago Mariska had a Sunday School lesson on sinning and repenting, or rather, the Atonement. I'm not sure exactly what the assignment for the picture was, I think the teacher had them draw a picture of something people should repent of or something like that. This is Mariska's picture. Now, before I explain just what it is, I must stress the fact that the scariest things she's allowed to watch are Disney movies like "Night At The Museum" and "Sleeping Beauty", she has never watched anything worse than PG, and even then she hasn't seen too many of those.... this is a picture of 2 bad guys, breaking into a house to kidnap a baby. Not only are they kidnapping a baby, but she also drew their axe and hammer that they brought along with them to "smash the baby with".... morbid right?? I have no idea where she got all that - the only thing I can think is that we really need to turn down Criminal Minds and The Mentalist while she's going to bed!! Maybe she's over hearing way too much! But this is probably the most detailed "free hand" picture she's ever drawn, so we had to keep it, dark as it may be!
