I've been really trying hard to get good at couponing. I think I'm starting to do much better. Although I'm starting to notice that the more I coupon, the worse our diets. I'm finding really good deals on toiletries and diapers and such, but when it comes to actual food, the only really good deals I'm finding are in snack foods and condiments. We've had frozen lasagna, pizza and plenty of cookies and packaged rice mixes. Although when you're roughly 60 pounds over weight, with junk being so cheap, you end up paying for it in pants sizes and regrets. We have 11 packages of hot dogs in the freezer. I'm thankful they'll keep for a while in there.
I love the idea of feeding my family for super cheap, everyone does, but I'm not finding the foods we should be eating for the great prices. I found myself simply aching for produce the other day. I'm starting to come to the realization that couponing and dropping unwanted pounds might not go that well together. I'll stick with focusing on toilet paper and shampoo... it's a bit disappointing, but at least I can get feminine pads and razors for practically nothing now. So that's good.

Sorry to hear that it's not working out as you'd hoped. That's pretty much the same reason I dropped couponing - I ended up spending money (even money saved is still money spent) on things that I wouldn't otherwise buy and eat, like snack foods and prepackaged junk. I save a lot more money now if I plan out my weekly menu carefully based on the store's weekly produce and meat specials. It doesn't give the same triumphant feeling as coupon savings do, but I end up eating much better.
I'm just too worn out to even go through my coupons let alone use them. You're definitely right about the junk food though.
I'm with Maxine. Plan a menu for the week and stick to it while you're shopping. It's what works best for me.
I plan menus and use the sales too... I was just hoping the couponing would help me do that even cheaper. Not so much. But non-food stuff totally pays off.
