Ike and other Tidbits

So we got pretty much nothing with this Ike business. Not that I'm complaining at all. I love my electricity and running water. We were just expecting a really scary storm that may have cut the power and such for a few days and instead we got light to moderate rain all day and about 30 mph winds. So, all the preparing with our flashlights and 72 hour kits was a good thing, but not needed, although it did feel good to actually be prepared with those things!

Mariska is doing well, although potty training is at a complete stand still. I have her in cloth training undies and plastic pants when we're home but she still just goes in them like diapers and doesn't care much. I did try it without the plastic pants to let her get real messy, but she didn't care about that either and it was more clean-up for me. And it's way too hard to predict when she needs to go to put her on the potty, sometimes she holds it for 6 hours or more and I can't sit there all day. And her being on the potty turned into kicking, screaming, huge tantrums... so we're just backing off and reminding her that our "pee pee and poo poo" go in the potty and lets try to go there next time, but she just says "no" and runs off. We just figure she'll decide it's time when she's good and ready, but we aren't going back to diapers 24/7 either. Sometimes she'll tell me she's yucky and ask to be put in clean pants, but more often then not she just sits in it. Nasty huh?

She's said some funny things regarding the pregnancy lately... She wanted me to carry her from our room (and the rocking chair) into her room but my back was really hurting so Brent was doing it. She was upset and so I explained that I couldn't carry her because my belly was too big and she just looks at me and says, "make it smaller!" Like I have any choice in the matter. It was pretty funny.

We were also talking about how the baby will come out at Christmas time and she asks, "baby has a door?"... I just said "yes".

Along those lines the pregnancy is still fine. I'm not unbearably huge yet, though it's getting harder and harder to get up from sitting and turn over in bed, I have to wake up to do that now. Other then from my belly button/lower back, all the way down to my toes aching all day, there isn't anything else going on. Other then me just ready for her to be born and over with! I have my next appointment on October 2nd.

That's about it for now, I'll have some pictures up next week I suppose!

I'm glad that you weren't really affect by Ike. Better to have your 72-hour kits for nothing than to be caught without, eh? And promise you'll be one of the first to evacuate if/when they give an evacuation warning, instead of all those dummies who decided that they should just stay and face "certain death."

Yeah those people are so stupid! I'm really glad they pulled out all rescue workers and told those who chose to stay that they were on their own until after the storm was over. That's how it should be, they had more then ample warning! dummies.

And yet...they still went back to rescue the dummies. Glad you escaped Ike's path.

Mariska's funny..."make it smaller"...so truthful.

We need some belly shots! At least I do.

That was a cute comment about "baby has a door?" Like she doesn't understand how she's gonna get out. How observant & sweet. I'm sorry about all your aches. I take a couple of Calcium chews ever since I realized my prenatal vitamin didnt' have Calcium. They are calcium chews your mom gave me actually. They look like really big TUMS & taste pretty good. I think you can only absorb a certain amount of Calcium no matter how much you take anyway. Anyhoot I'm sure your uncomfortable for a lot of other reasons. I'm always asking Nathan for a Calf Massage at night.

I'm so glad you're safe & sound too!

We are glad to hear you guys are save. I am getting ready to potty train Aubree. I think she is more ready than I am. I am sure Mariska will come around. With Makinlee we devoted a day to potty training. We stocked the house full of treats and drinks she liked. Every time she got on the potty I gave her a drink and then she would get a treat. This made it so she would eventually have to go pee or poop. If she had an accident she had to clean it up. She caught on pretty quickly. After that we never went back to diapers. She had to be reminded to try going to the bathroom and there were several days where we changed underwear but It went pretty well. Maybe this would work for Mariska.

OK...enough! Strip her naked for 3days straight.

she told me this morning all about how going on the potty is "not good"...
